Chemistry Club Description

ACS (a.k.a 'Chemistry Club', or American Chemical Society Student Affiliates) is made up of a rag-tag, looseknit group of undergraduates seeking clarity in a sea of indecision. When the spirit moves them (or more specifically when free food is offered) the group goes on tours of local establishments specializing in the sciences.

Some members are officers, though sometimes only in title. A few members get together for the occasional movie (with an underlying science theme) or to eat lunch with a few chemistry faculty members. Many more attend the ever popular annual BBQ outside of Olin Hall (now done occasionally in tandem with tri-beta).

We have no dues, no apparent bylaws, and no GPA requirements other than those set by the University. The only substantial requirment for membership is that you have an interest in the sciences (usually evident when you sign up for a course in chemistry).  We also ask that our officers join the National Society (known as ACS Student Affiliates).  National dues are $25 and get you a subscription to Chemical and Engineering News (a way-cool publication of the National ACS).

Occasionally we sign up random students to our newslist in the hopes that one of them might be flattered enough to become a chemistry major. The list itself is used to announce a variety of jobs (usually for graduating seniors), summer opportunities, and social events. Members also can use the list to communicate community events...

All students interested in becoming a part of the group are encouraged to talk to Dr. Treichel and/or join the Chem Club/Department mailing list to keep up with current happenings in the Department and with the Chem Club.  Send an email to Dr. Fackler (nfackler@nebrwesleyan.edu) to be placed on the mailing list or subscribe to the mailing list directly.
